ThemeOutline Programme

Our conference theme is leadership, a subject of considerable interest to us all as library directors. Supported by experts in the field, we will be exploring the key issues of leadership as they apply to the practical problems that face us in our work, including our relationships with major stakeholders - senior managers in our schools/universities, our most important suppliers and, not least, the teams we manage.

Visits

We will be visiting the Open University on Thursday afternoon, a pioneer in open and distance learning with a fascinating history. The evening is a chance to look around Milton Keynes, a new city and one of the fastest-growing in the UK, with an optional visit to the MK theatre, a major arts and entertainment venue.

Networking

The whole of Friday is dedicated to building library/vendor relationships. With lectures and discussion panels, exhibitions and the bazaar of ideas, it is a fantastic opportunity to network. The day will finish with a traditional English country dance for everyone!

Conference Dinner

We anticipate that the highlight of the conference will be the gala dinner at Castle Ashby. Built in 1574 to entertain Queen Elizabeth I, Castle Ashby is a magnificent ancestral home in two hundred acres of beautiful parkland designed by one of the most famous landscape designers, Capability Brown. We will be dining in the imposing Great Hall.
