Additional Information to Project Overview - Annex III/2

(Tempus Phare CME 1 - 03549-97)

Objective for the 1st year were:
Investigating the present state of library and information systems in support of CEMS international management studies and similar European business studies and management iniciatives, including
·    management requirements of information and library services for international business and management study programmes
·    library and information services staff development with particular reference to skills needed for supporting effectively and efficiently international business and management studies and ease of communication, the primary objective of the European management programmes
Commentary:
Based on agreement with the firm called Biblioservices (France) we have made plan of investigating the present state of library and information systems. Grant consortium has decided to realize "Study of information and library services quality for international study programmes". Therefore Biblioservices have studied all materials about quality in libraries (ISO 11620, etc.) and have chosen the appropriate measures to evaluate quality and compare various libraries. They have proposed formulars and software for the surveys of results and data analyses. There have been offered 3 formulars (questionnaires) : "CEMS survey" dedicated to CEMS students only, "Other survey" dedicated to own professors, students, MBA, etc., and "Collection analysis" to be completed by the librarians. About questions including to these 3 formulars (questionnaires) large discussions have been going among grant partners. The way it was mainly realised were: e-mail discussions and discussions during EBSLG meeting in the year 1999. Validation and sample survey has been done by HEC University. After it we have found great differences in understanding to the questions and also in access to the survey realization. Some of grant partners do not make differences between own and foreign student and the main point of their strategy is to develope good library and information services using new information technology for all users. Therefore grant consortium has decided to stop making one common strategy - every partners university has used developed questionnaires like part of own information surveys. Example of questionnaires is done in annex A - also results of CEMS students survey and their information needs at UEP, CZ.

Objective for the 2nd year has been according results in the 1st year to transfer conclusions and findings mainly to the further development of library and information services based on new information technology.
Commentary:
Focus on this subject has been done during Annual General Meeting of EBSLG helding at INSEAD, France. From grant partners mainly CBS Library Director M.C. Schonberg has presented summary of the main directions of further development of information and library services in the future, together with Milt Ternberg from USA. It means comparison of the general problems has been done. Using of all these materials and experiences of all grant partners, czech grant partner and contractor has done "Long-term Programme" (Annex B to the Final Report) for information and library services with the summary of all strategic questions we should solve in the future. Implementation has been done only for UEP Centre of Information and Library Services, but general parts could be used in the same way by all grant partners and all EBSLG (European Business Schools Librarians Group) members (40). It seems to be one of the main grant results/outcomes.

Commentary to the other results/outcomes
